Peter Brown -
Associate
Peter Brown is a telecoms industry professional to his
finger tips with extensive skills and experience in property and facilities
management including the management of large scale projects.
An effective negotiator he was Property Manager for
Racal Telecommunications/ Global Crossing from 1995 to 2002 where responsibility
was held for all aspects of property strategy including acquisition, disposal,
new build and operational management. This included the associated aspects of
facilities management, security, property taxation issues, insurance and road
transport management.
The dimensions of this post covered 150 leased
offices and technical sites totalling more than 1,000,000 sq ft, and 1500
telecom co-location installations which required an operational budget of £42M
with capital expenditure of up to £14M annually. A number of individual
projects were successfully completed that involved large scale relocation
projects for 50,000 sq ft offices and larger, which involved location selection,
acquisition, fit out, staff consultation, move management and disposals.
No less important was the management of technical
buildings/ facilities in support of this major national network where the use of
railway wayleaves predominated.
Peter originally joined the Civil Aviation Authority
in 1969 training as a radio technician and he undertook a wide range of
management courses before joining the British Railways Board technical
organisation in 1974. Here his achievements included the initial testing and
commissioning of the Mercury fibre optic cable network, installed alongside the
railway, and representing the first use of the technology in the United Kingdom.
By 1992 Peter had been appointed as the Building and
Transport Services Manager for BR Telecommunications Ltd, the organisation
established to bring commercialisation to rail telecom activities. He determined
and implemented strategy to separate telecom property rights between BRT and
Railtrack, and compiled and valued the company asset register. He also had the
day job of managing the complete property and vehicle portfolio.
In 2003 an independent consultancy was established
with a lengthy assignment being carried out for Thales Telecommunications
Services to introduce process improvement to the applications design department.
Peter has recently been appointed an associate of Vitesse Rail Com Ltd.
