Mike Jones is a long-standing rail
industry professional and was a member of the British Rail Telecoms Ltd (BRT)
start-up team. He had responsibility for the definition, pricing and management
of voice and data products and services, including rail retail (i.e. stations)
and telecom systems. He continued in this role with Racal Telecom (and as a
consultant to Global Crossing UK) following privatisation.
Mike later founded his own consultancy business and has advised on most
aspects of rail operational and telecoms rail services.
He promoted the formation the first UK open
access passenger train operator, Hull Trains, and is a director of that company.
He is a partner in First Class Partnership, a key advisor to the Strategic Rail
Authority on the future structure of the UK railway industry and is a member of
the team appointed by the SRA as the operator of Last Resort.
